A man in his 70s and a woman in her 60s were killed in a horror head-on smash with a HGV. #Manchester

A Volkswagen Golf car they were in 'appears to have failed to negotiate a bend' and crossed the carriageway into the lorry's path, police said.

The driver, a man in his 70s, and a passenger, a woman aged in her 60s, both suffered serious injuries and sadly died at the scene.

Police have now launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses.
