#Gosport residents have every right to be furious about the Haslar Immigration Removal Centre expansion.

What started as a 130-bed reopening has BALLOONED into plans for 600 beds, complete with three-storey blocks that were NEVER put before residents. The Home Office has chosen the Crown Development route, meaning Gosport Borough Council DOES NOT get the final say.

Local democracy has been treated as an inconvenience.

On Wednesday 29th July at 6pm, in the Council Chamber at the Town Hall, the Regulatory Board will discuss the council’s FORMAL RESPONSE to those plans.

They can’t stop it, BUT they CAN put a strong, clear objection ON THE RECORD & let history show that #WeWereNEVERAsked.

They CAN demand that the height is reduced, the process is challenged & the impact on Gosport is PROPERLY recognised.

If you’re sick of being ignored, if you’re tired of decisions about your town being made behind closed doors in Whitehall & if you don’t want a 600-bed facility forced into the Borough & County with minimal local input, then turn up.

Fill the public gallery. Let the councillors see the faces of the people who will live WITH THE CONSEQUENCES.

Make it impossible for anyone to claim, “There isn’t much local concern.”

This is not abstract. This is about the CHARACTER of Gosport, the PRESSURE on local services & whether residents still have any REAL VOICES left.
